Recently, I ran across this song “Gopi Gita”, which is a 19-verse devotional song Composed by Sage Vyasa as part of the Bhagavata Purana. Turns out it is basically verses 1-19 from the Srimad Bhagavatam Canto 10, chapter 31. I don’t know if it is a bonafide song, as it is not in our “Songs of the Vaisnava Acaryas” songbook. And Srila Prabhupada didn’t get to Canto 10, Chapter 31, in his translations before his passing. He did however Give us “KRSNA The Supreme Personality of Godhead“, so we have the entire song in one beautiful chapter.

One gopī said, “My dear Kṛṣṇa, ever since You took Your birth in this land of Vrajabhūmi, everything appears to be glorious. The land of Vṛndāvana has become glorious, and it is as if the goddess of fortune is personally always existing here. But it is only we who are very unhappy, because we are searching for You, but cannot see You with our greatest effort. Our life is completely dependent upon You; therefore we request that You again come to us.”

Golden Avatar Productions

Golden Avatar Productions was a 1970’s recording studio and music/media enterprise started by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) in Los Angeles, California. It was operated as a dedicated recording ministry studio, producing spiritual music, kirtans, lectures, and films. The KT Series produced the famous cassette and audio collection featuring spiritual music, bhajans, and recordings of Srila Prabhupada, Visnujana Swami, Acyutananda Swami, and other early Hare Krishna devotees.

I am sure many of the older devotees, still have a collection of these cassette tapes, I know I do, although many have worn out do to constant playing.

So here we have a listing of these early recordings from tapes distributed under the label of Golden Avatar Productions! These are classic (vintage) Hare Krishna kirtans and bhajans. They don’t make ’em like this any more!

I don’t know how they will work on your phone or computer, or if they will play unless you download, but either way this is the list of all these Golden Recordings. You can also try Krsna Tunes if they don’t work here. (On my computer they download to my Media Player and I can listen from there.)

This is one of my favorite tapes that I played into extinction.

This is far and away my favorite album by Srila Prabhupada. If I could only have one album in my music collection, this would be it. Hare Krishna!

This is an older Editorial by my good friend Padmpani Prabhu over at Prabhupada Connection. I never tire of reading and re-reading his posts.

The Prabhupada Revolution

For many of us who came of age in the Sixties and Seventies, the counterculture and its promise of an alternative society based on love and peace was an important part of our lives. Art, music, poetry, philosophy, ecology and human rights were just a few of the buzzwords floating around the collective psyche of the Sixties generation. Revolution was in the air. “The establishment” was doomed and soon to be replaced with a kinder, gentler society. Peace would reign supreme and all peoples of the world would unite and be free from the chains of oppression. Or so we thought.

At the time it appeared that massive cultural changes were about to sweep away the capitalist system (or the “military-industrial-complex” as we used to call it). Every day there was a new victory for change. Underground newspapers proliferated, broadcasting the latest progress reports: the sit-ins, the love-ins, the be-ins, the antiwar and civil rights demonstrations, the Democratic National Convention of 1968, the Chicago Seven Trial, Woodstock, etc. Something was happening here, and it was big.

As explained on the cover of the record album, this transcendental vibration — by chanting of Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare/ Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare — is the sublime method for reviving our Krishna consciousness. As living spiritual souls we are all originally Krishna conscious entities, but due to our association with matter since time immemorial, our consciousness is now polluted by material atmosphere. In this polluted concept of life, we are all trying to exploit the resources of material nature, but actually we are becoming more and more entangled in her complexities.

This illusion is called Maya, or hard struggle for existence over the stringent laws of material nature. This illusory struggle against the material nature can at once be stopped by revival of our Krishna consciousness.
