Srila Prabhupada with Books

I am always happy to see Srila Prabhupada’s books being distributed. When I saw this book distribution report on facebook, I couldn’t help but post it here. ISKCON Bangalore seems to be doing an outstanding job distributing these transcendental books, and in 5 different languages as well! Very inspiring. Glories to all of Srila Prabhupada’s book distributors. Hare Krishna!

Over 78000 Copies of Gita Distributed During Book Marathon

The book marathon program of ISKCON Sri Radha Krishna temple, Bangalore which commenced on 7th Dec 2014 during the auspicious occasion of Gita Jayanti, went on till 8th Feb 2015 and concluded with a prize distribution ceremony on 15th Feb, 2015.

Book distribution is one of the major activities of ISKCON centers around the world as it was the desire of Srila Prabhupada, the founder-acharya of ISKCON to spread the teachings of Vedic literature all over the world by distributing his books to the people at large as ordered by his spiritual master, Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakura. In fact, Srila Prabhupada considered it as his life and soul. He instructed, guided and encouraged his disciples to engage in book distribution more and more and that would please him very much.

In pursuance of distributing these spiritual books on a large scale, ISKCON Bangalore has been conducting a month-long book marathon every year in December beginning from Gita Jayanti. This year the marathon was extended by another month owing to highly enthusiastic volunteers involved in distributing books. The result was overwhelming as 45 teams containing 335 devotees participated in the marathon and distributed a total of 53143 books worth 72.8 lacs as against 37.70 lacs in 2013. Copies of Bhagavad-gita books in different languages were distributed at quite low prices starting from Rs. 100 with a view to encouraging more and more people to buy it and understand the message of Lord Krishna. Totally 78474 copies of Gita books were distributed from the temple during the marathon period including those distributed by the marathon teams.

In order to encourage the devotees in the distribution of transcendental literature and also in recognition of their dedication and service attitude, prizes were awarded to the book distributors under different categories. A few of these devotees shared with the audience their realizations and experiences during the marathon.

Sri Madhu Pandit Dasa, Temple President, gave away the prizes to the winners. He also awarded prizes to the winners of last year’s magazine marathon who made maximum number of subscriptions for monthly magazines published by ISKCON Bangalore – Bhaktivedanta Darshana (Kannada) and Krishna Voice (English). These magazines contain articles on spiritual subjects as per the teachings of Srila Prabhupada and also news and events related to the temple. It is yet another attempt of the temple to take the teachings of Srila Prabhupada to the general mass of people every month so that they advance spiritually in their life.
